I wonder if its the lack of caffiene before I ride that’s making me lack energy. In the morning group rides I’d always had my morning coffee. Coffee is hardly the ideal pre-workout beverage, and in fact is pretty bad for me any time. The vasoconstriction can lead to hardening of the blood vessels, or a stroke.
